Tear Down The Fucking Wall
Roger Waters. The Wall. I’ve been to a few Jazz shows and three concerts but this concert was unlike any other. Honestly, I just thought it would be good music and fancy lights but just the opening blew my mind. Those blood red stage sparks shooting up from the stage along with ‘In the Flesh’ being blasted through out the stadium, you have officially lost ever inch of feeling that was left in your body.
Then He comes on stage. The crowd goes wild, no insane. Yes, our seats weren’t the best but with a show like that, it didn’t even matter.
And when you’re sitting amongst people from 10-70 years of age chanting the lyrics to ‘Another Brick In The Wall (pt 1)’, you know that you’re in the right place.
There was one of the many brilliant things which really stood out though. When Roger performed ‘Mother’, the back screen is mirrored a younger, 20 year old Roger in black and white. It was as if I got a second chance to see the past where i didn’t even exist yet.
The subject matter really struck me as well. But I’m not going to get into that
When ‘Comfortably Numb’ started, my mind had taken me over. Probably because the stadium was fogged up with smoke from everyone smoking weed, but it felt like an out of body experience.
Then there were a bunch of people wearing Pink Floyd which kind of bugged me, because this wasn’t really “Pink Floyd”. Syd Barrett, Nick Mason, David Gilmour or Rick Wright was not present. This wasn’t Pink Floyd.
Even though Roger wasn’t really singing, his presence was enough. There was so much of contempt he had, if he wanted to, he would be able to brainwash the stadium into fighting against the government, he had that power. The money, time, effort and thought invested in the experience must have been astounding. It was one of those shows that you can’t really see twice. The second time won’t be as good. But it all feels like a dream now.
